Dr. Teresa Campbell to Assume Duties Immediately

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, has named Teresa Campbell, MD, as acting state medical examiner. Campbell will assume the duties of the office immediately.

“Dr. Campbell brings stellar experience and knowledge to the position, and I have great confidence in her abilities to take on the responsibilities of the office during this interim period,” said Commissioner Cooper. “We will lend our full support to Dr. Campbell as she assumes this role to ensure the transition process is as seamless as possible.”

Tennessee to Develop Strategy to Improve Transportation and Land Use Planning

NGA Center Selects Tennessee to Participate in 10-Month Initiative
 
NASHVILLE – Tennessee has been selected by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) to participate in the Policy Academy on Shaping a New Approach to Transportation and Land Use Planning. The state will develop a Corridor Management Agreement in one of the state’s urban areas that will later be applied to other transportation corridors across the state. The goal is to create a system that helps local planning agencies learn how to make land use decisions that better coordinate with transportation decisions made at the local and state level. Colorado, Maryland, Washington and West Virginia have also been selected to participate in the program.

NASHVILLE – The publishers of Trade & Industry Development magazine, a national economic development publication, have named Wacker Chemie and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development among the winners of its 2010 Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) Awards. The project was chosen as one of 15 in the Corporate Investment category for the Munich-based company’s $1 billion investment and forecasted creation of 500 jobs in Bradley County.

February Unemployment Rate 10.7 Percent

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for February was 10.7 percent, unchanged from the revised January rate of 10.7 percent. The February rate a year ago was 9.6 percent. The national unemployment rate for February 2010 was 9.7 percent, unchanged from the January rate of 9.7 percent.

Donation by Appalachian Regional Commission allows books for more than 185,000 children in Appalachian Tennessee

NASHVILLE-More than 185,000 children in Middle and East Tennessee counties will have the chance to develop their vocabulary, improve school readiness and grow a love for reading after a generous donation by the Appalachian Regional Commission, with assistance from the East Tennessee Development District. The $100,000 donation will be matched by the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) to ensure that free, high-quality, age appropriate books are sent each month to registered children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.
