NASHVILLE — White Pine School will celebrate Energy Conservation Day this Friday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with an Energy Fair, performances by the Energized Guyz and an Energy Carnival. Students will also have the opportunity to turn out the lights and participate in “Go Out and Play Day,” which encourages students to turn off the television, conserve energy and be more active.
White Pine’s Energy Conservation Day was planned by the school’s Science and Energy Team. Through the day’s activities, the team hopes to educate students and their families about energy conservation; encourage student families to complete home energy audits; reduce school energy use by 5% long-term; and promote physical activity for students and their families to encourage lifelong wellness and health.
The Energy Fair, which takes place all day, includes stations for Energy Efficiency, Green Energy, Phantom Power, Lighting and Student Energy Projects, many of which are sponsored by the Appalachian Electric Cooperative. Students will learn about home energy audits, energy-use calculators, recycling programs, phantom power, meter displays, and the costs associated with different types of lighting.
On display will be award-winning student projects on hydroelectric power, solar power, wind power, DC current, and series and parallel circuits.
In addition, TVA will sponsor two performances by the Energized Guyz, a live children’s theater production that teaches students and their families how to get more for their energy dollars through a live show. The show educates grade-school kids about how energy is made and how using energy and water wisely is good for financially and environmentally.
Finally, students will participate in “Go Out and Play Day.” Lights in all classrooms will be turned off, and students sent outside to play. White Pine’s Science and Energy Team encourages students to participate in “Go Out and Play Day” with their own families on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Parents, guardians and grandparents are encouraged to attend all activities with their children.
