White Pine School to Celebrate Clean Energy Day March 12

Students to Exhibit Projects on Alternative Power Sources

NASHVILLE, — White Pine School in Jefferson County will host a Clean Energy Day on Friday, March 12 as part of the National Energy Education Development Project to educate attendees about alternative clean energy sources including wind, solar and hydropower. NEED is a nationwide program that teaches the science of energy and provides information to teachers and students about conventional and emerging energy sources.

Throughout the day, White Pine School’s Science and Energy team will give tailored presentations in grades one – five using materials provided as a part of the NEED curriculum. All parents, students and the general public are invited to attend the Clean Energy Day event between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Additionally, student projects on wind, solar and hydropower will be on display in the school’s common area.

In addition to students and staff, community leaders from White Pine’s City Council and School Board members have been invited to attend.

The NEED Project is administered at the state level through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s Tennessee Energy Education Network. TEEN partners with 4H programs to provide energy efficiency education to students in 53 counties across the state. In the fall of 2009, White Pine School also hosted an Energy Conservation Day in part due to this partnership.
