NASHVILLE – Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today joined leaders of Gold River Feed Products in celebrating the company’s decision to open a new location in Shelbyville. The Kentucky-based Gold River Feed Products’ $7.25 million investment in Bedford County will create 34 jobs over the next five years.

FEMA: Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Davidson County

NASHVILLE - A Mobile Disaster Recovery Center will operate in the Hickory Hollow Mall area of Davidson County from Wednesday, June 9, through Saturday, June 12, to provide assistance to people affected by the severe storms and flooding between April 30 and May 18, 2010.

2011 Tennessee Teacher of the Year Finalists Announced

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education is proud to announce the finalists for the 2011 Tennessee Teacher of the Year Award. The nine finalists are comprised of elementary, middle and high school educators from each grand division of the state. Grand Division winners and Teacher of the Year will be chosen from this group this fall.

“I am very proud to have such outstanding teachers in this state,” Education Commissioner Timothy Webb said. “These teachers were instrumental in implementing the Tennessee Diploma Project this year and are examples of the kind of support we will need to successfully implement our Race to the Top efforts statewide. SBA Approves More Than $50 Million In Tennessee Disaster Loans

NASHVILLE - More than $50 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster assistance loans has been approved for those affected by the severe storms and flooding that struck Tennessee between April 30 and May 18.
 
"We are pleased to continue approving these loans so the residents and businesses of Tennessee can rebuild and resume their normal lives," said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA Field Operations Center East in Atlanta. "Currently, 1,179 disaster loans have been approved in the amount of $53.8 million."

DHS Inspections Heat Up as Temperatures Rise

NASHVILLE — In a renewed effort to ensure that comprehensive transportation rules are being followed, as well as remaining extra vigilant to keep children safe during hot summer days, child care providers across Tennessee who transport children will face increased inspections again this summer. DHS licensing staff is cracking down with extra monitoring visits to providers who transport children. Those caught breaking the rules face a range of penalties, from being put on notice, probation or suspension of their operation.

NASHVILLE - Each year, as many as nine million Americans become victims of identity theft, the unauthorized acquisition and use of a person’s identifying information – such as a name, Social Security number or credit card number – to commit fraud or other crimes. Identity thieves might use data to rent apartments, obtain credit or establish telephone accounts. Victims often discover the crimes when reviewing credit reports or statements.

FEMA: One Month Later, Disaster Assistance Efforts in Tennessee Continue

NASHVILLE – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced updated information on the continued efforts of federal and state support in the Volunteer State following the severe storms and flooding between April 30 and May 18.
 
As of June 4, 30 days after President Obama made a federal disaster declaration for Tennessee, 1,039 federal and state employees from across the country are working to meet the needs of more than 60,000 disaster survivors who have registered for assistance.

Teach Tennessee Fellows Begin Summer Training

NASHVILLE – A chemist, research scientist and physical therapist are among the group of over 25 individuals making a career change this summer to become a teacher through the Tennessee Department of Education’s Teach Tennessee program. Teach Tennessee is a statewide transitional licensure program created by Governor Phil Bredesen that addresses the need for classroom teachers by challenging mid-career professionals, retirees and others to teach.
