Japanese Auto Supplier to Build New Plant in Murfreesboro

$54 Million Capital Investment to Create Up to 224 Jobs
 
NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today joined with Matt Kisber, commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and community officials from Rutherford County in announcing plans by NHK Seating of America, Inc. to locate a manufacturing facility for automotive parts near the intersection of I-24 and Joe B. Jackson Parkway in Murfreesboro, Tenn. NHK will spend nearly $54 million to construct the facility beginning in October 2010, and the facility is expected to employ up to 224 workers when all phases of production are implemented in 2015.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today accepted a $15,000 business grant on behalf of the Retire Tennessee program from Bobby Goode, state director for the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development. The grant will be used to advertise and promote Tennessee nationally as an attractive location for retirees and to support continuing education opportunities for Retire Tennessee communities.

NASHVILLE – A report commissioned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation today lauded Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber’s efforts to develop a business climate conducive to the creation of new jobs in Tennessee. The report, entitled “Enterprising States: Creating Jobs, Economic Development and Prosperity in Challenging Times” was highlighted during a roundtable involving Tennessee business leaders, Governor Bredesen, Commissioner Kisber and Margaret Spellings, executive vice president of the National Chamber Foundation.

Bredesen Joins U.S. Chamber in Promoting Job Creation and Free Enterprise

NASHVILLE. – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today announced the communities of Benton, Milan, Savannah and Watauga have been approved to receive $100,000 each in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG), funded from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. With the addition of these four communities, the Tennessee EECBG program has now awarded $13.4 million in grants to 146 communities throughout the state to implement energy efficient projects.

NASHVILLE – The State Building Commission today approved Chattanooga-based Signal Energy as the design/build contractor for the West Tennessee Solar Farm to be located along Interstate 40 in Haywood County. The proposed five-megawatt, 30-acre power generation facility is part of Governor Phil Bredesen’s Volunteer State Solar Initiative, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and will be one of the largest solar installations in the Southeast.
