ECD Announces Applications Available for Rural Technology Grants

Grants of Up To $250K Available to Rural Communities

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today announced applications are available for the Tennessee Rural Technology Assistance Program, a series of competitive grants aimed at increasing technology usage and availability in rural areas of Tennessee. The grants will be awarded to selected counties in which the population of all municipalities is less than 20,000 as of July 1, 2009.

Governor Bredesen Approves 22 Main Street Innovation Grants

Tennessee Main Street Communities to Receive $15,000

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has approved $330,000 in Main Street Innovation Grants for 22 of Tennessee’s Main Street Programs. Each participating community will receive $15,000 with which to develop or continue innovative projects, programs, activities and/or technology that exemplify good downtown revitalization practices following the Main Street “four point approach to revitalization.” Innovation Grant projects relate to design, promotion and marketing or business development.

Commissioners Kisber, Farr Announce TNInvestco Applications Process

New Program Offers $120 Million in Tax Credits to Firms Investing in Small Business

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber and Revenue Commissioner Reagan Farr today made public the application process for companies seeking to take advantage of the Tennessee Small Business Investment Company Credit Act which was signed into law by Governor Phil Bredesen on July 9, 2009.
 
The act authorizes the state of Tennessee to issue up to $120 million in tax credits to insurance companies who invest in one of six venture capital funds certified as “TNInvestcos” by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and the Tennessee Department of Revenue. The TNInvestcos are required to invest in small and start-up companies in Tennessee.

NASHVILLE – Volkswagen Group of America’s decision to build an automotive production facility in Chattanooga, Tenn. was named Deal of the Year by Southern Business & Development magazine. Tennessee was also named Co-State of the Year and Governor Phil Bredesen, Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber and Revenue Commissioner Reagan Farr made the publication’s Ten People Who Made a Difference list. 

Bredesen, Kisber, Announce 18 Recovery Act CDBG Grants

Additional Community Development Block Grants Funded by Federal Stimulus

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber awarded more than $7 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Recovery Act dollars will fund 18 additional projects submitted in the 2008 CDBG funding cycle for community livability, water and sewer, and housing rehabilitation.

Carlisle Companies Announces Facility in Jackson

Multi-Million Dollar Capital Investment to Create Over 400 New Jobs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today congratulated the board of directors and senior leadership of Carlisle Companies of Charlotte, North Carolina on the company’s decision to locate a new manufacturing facility in Jackson, Tenn. The facility will be operated by Carlisle Tire and Wheel, a subsidiary of Carlisle Companies and will manufacture tires, inner tubes and wheels for a variety of vehicles used in the agricultural, all-terrain vehicle, golf, industrial, lawn/garden and trailer markets. The project represents a multi-million dollar investment by Carlisle Tire and Wheel and is expected to create approximately 440 new jobs. The acquisition of the new facility is subject to confirmatory due diligence and is expected to close in late September.

Robertson County Joins State's Retire Tennessee Program

County Joins Nine Established Communities

NASHVILLE – Matt Kisber, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, announced today that Robertson County has met the criteria to join the state’s retiree recruitment program, Retire Tennessee, bringing the state’s total number of active Retire Tennessee Programs to 10.
