Design/Build Contractor Named for West Tennessee Solar Farm

NASHVILLE – The State Building Commission today approved Chattanooga-based Signal Energy as the design/build contractor for the West Tennessee Solar Farm to be located along Interstate 40 in Haywood County. The proposed five-megawatt, 30-acre power generation facility is part of Governor Phil Bredesen’s Volunteer State Solar Initiative, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and will be one of the largest solar installations in the Southeast.

The awards will be presented at the 57th Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development at the Nashville Convention Center on September 16 and 17, 2010.

Governor Bredesen, Commissioner Kisber Announce Almost $3.8 Million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants

Second Round of Grants Awarded to 42 Tennessee Cities and Counties

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber announced today that 42 additional Tennessee cities and counties were awarded around $3.8 million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This announcement comes just months after $9.2 million in EECBG grants was distributed to 100 Tennessee cities and counties. The grants will enable communities to implement cost-effective strategies which reduce total energy expenses and save taxpayer money through improved energy efficiency in buildings and transportation systems, creating an estimated 45 new jobs in the process.

National Trust Main Street Center Offered Training to Tennessee Main Street, Tennessee Downtowns Programs

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s Tennessee Main Street Program hosted a two-day conference this week, the Downtown Revitalization Workshop, at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown Monday June 28 – Tuesday, June 29. Representatives from Tennessee’s 24 Main Street communities and 10 Tennessee Downtowns communities attended the free educational workshop, which was made possible through a $50,000 sponsorship from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development.

Loudon County Joins State's Retire Tennessee Program

County Joins Ten Established Communities

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber announced today that Loudon County has met the criteria to join the state’s retiree recruitment program, Retire Tennessee, bringing the state’s total number of active Retire Tennessee programs to 11.

“Loudon County is an excellent addition to our Retire Tennessee program with its natural beauty and exceptional quality of life,” said Commissioner Kisber. “I applaud those communities that have made retiree recruitment a part of their economic development strategies and who see the benefits retirees can bring to the communities in which they choose to live.”

The Kentucky-based Gold River Feed Products’ $7.25 million investment in Bedford County will create 34 jobs over the next five years.
