Norcom of Tennessee Expanding in Sparta

Composite Products Manufacturer to Create 30 to 50 New Jobs

SPARTA, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber, Sparta Mayor Tommy Pedigo and White County Executive Herd Sullivan, along with leadership from the Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce, today took part in ribbon-cutting ceremonies celebrating the grand opening of Norcom of Tennessee’s expanded production facility in Sparta, Tenn. The expansion represents an investment of $2 million over three years and is expected to create 30 to 50 new jobs.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber, along with officials of ClearFuels Technology Inc. and Hughes Hardwood, announced today that the two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a biorefinery that will convert 1,000 dry tons of wood product per day to renewable diesel or jet fuel. Hawaii-based ClearFuels will site the facility at the Hughes Hardwood wood component products manufacturing facility in Collinwood, Tenn.

Second and Seventh Graders Invited to “Think Clean, Think Green, It’s in the Bag!”
 
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Energy Policy Office, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Tennessee Department of Education, announced today a call for entries in an energy art competition for Tennessee second and seventh graders. The “Think Clean, Think Green, It’s in the Bag!” contest invites students to create and submit a design to be printed on a reusable shopping bag and a written paragraph explaining the meaning of their design.

 SL Tennessee, LLC to Invest $35 Million and Create 300 New Jobs in Clinton

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today joined with executives of SL America to announce a $35 million expansion of SL Tennessee, LLC, a company subsidiary operating in Clinton, Tenn.. The expansion will create 300 new jobs and add an additional 100,000 square feet to the company’s existing facility by the end of 2010. SL Tennessee is an automotive parts supplier for General Motors, Hyundai, KMG and Volkswagen.

ECD/UT Three-Star Scholarship Program to Award $30,000 in Grants to Rural Elected Officials
 
NASHVILLE – Matt Kisber, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced today a grant to the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service (IPS) which will allow the organization to award $30,000 in Three-Star scholarships for city and county elected officials. The scholarships, overseen by the UT IPS and ECD, will be used for continued economic development education and 28 rural Tennessee counties and cities will be eligible to apply.

TNInvestco Funds Close on the Sale of $120 Million in Tax Credits

Sale Generates $85 Million in Up Front Funding for Investment in Tennessee Companies
 
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Matt Kisber and Commissioner of Revenue Reagan Farr announced today the sale of $120 million in tax credits by the six TNInvestco funds has raised approximately $85 million in early and mid stage capital for the funds to invest in Tennessee companies. The insurance companies participating in TNInvestco are capitalizing the program up front in exchange for tax credits allowing them to offset future gross premium tax liability on an annual basis beginning in 2012 through 2019.

NASHVILLE – The editors of Business Facilities magazine, a national economic development publication, have named Tennessee the magazine’s 2009 State of the Year for the number of new jobs created and amount of capital investments made during the calendar year. New Jersey-based Business Facilities also named the Hemlock Semiconductor project in Clarksville, Tennessee its 2009 Silver Award winner for Economic Development Deal of the Year, citing the company’s announced investment of $1.2 billion dollars and the creation of 500-900 new jobs.
