ECD Grants and Loans to Host Small Cities CDBG Discussion

Citizens and Elected Officials are Invited to Share Thoughts
 on the Program’s Objectives and Priorities

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Division of Grants and Loans will hold a meeting next week to hear recommendations from citizens and elected officials regarding the objectives and priorities for the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. Results from this discussion will determine how CDBG funds will be administered by the State in the Fiscal Year 2010 Program Year.

ECD Announces Rural Technology Grants for New Initiatives

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner Matt Kisber, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, announced today the recipients of the New Initiatives Grant Category of the Rural Technology Assistance Grants. Eight Tennessee communities will receive more than $1,300,000 in grant money for the development of regional technology research programs.

DOE Approves Volunteer State Solar Initiative

NASHVILLE — U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu today confirmed funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support the Volunteer State Solar Initiative in Tennessee. Under DOE’s State Energy Program, Governor Phil Bredesen has proposed a statewide plan that prioritizes energy savings, creates or retains jobs, increases the use of renewable energy, and reduces carbon pollution.

Winners of Third Annual Governor's Awards for Trade Excellence Announced

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today announced that La-Z-Boy of Tennessee of Dayton, Nucsafe, Inc. of Oak Ridge and World Trade Consult, LLC in Memphis are the recipients of the third annual Governor’s Awards for Trade Excellence. The GATE recognition honors large, medium and small-size companies who have achieved excellence in engaging in global trade. The winners will be presented their award by Governor Bredesen and Commissioner Kisber at the Economic and Community Development Governor’s Conference on Tuesday, September 15 at 12:30 p.m. during the Governor’s luncheon.

ECD Announces Applications Available for Rural Technology Grants

Grants of Up To $250K Available to Rural Communities

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today announced applications are available for the Tennessee Rural Technology Assistance Program, a series of competitive grants aimed at increasing technology usage and availability in rural areas of Tennessee. The grants will be awarded to selected counties in which the population of all municipalities is less than 20,000 as of July 1, 2009.

Governor Bredesen Approves 22 Main Street Innovation Grants

Tennessee Main Street Communities to Receive $15,000

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has approved $330,000 in Main Street Innovation Grants for 22 of Tennessee’s Main Street Programs. Each participating community will receive $15,000 with which to develop or continue innovative projects, programs, activities and/or technology that exemplify good downtown revitalization practices following the Main Street “four point approach to revitalization.” Innovation Grant projects relate to design, promotion and marketing or business development.
