NASHVILLE– Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner of Education Dr. Timothy Webb today announced Title I funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These allocations represent the entire Title I funding that will be available for districts to improve teaching and learning for students most at risk of failing to meet state and academic achievement standards.
NASHVILLE– The Tennessee Department of Education announced today that a private contractor inadvertently disclosed the personal information of more than 18,000 Metro Nashville Public Schools students and 6,000 parents during a data migration in Metro’s student data management system. This information was placed by Public Consulting Group, the contract vendor for this data file, unintentionally on an unsecured web server on December 28, 2008.
NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner of Education Dr. Timothy Webb today announced the first round of funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for Individuals with Disabilities. These allocations represent approximately half of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding that will be available to school districts.
“As we increase our curriculum and standards, the benefit of having increased funding for Tennessee students with disabilities will be vital to local education agencies, schools, teachers and, most importantly, the students,” Governor Phil Bredesen said. “These additional dollars in the classroom will be a tremendous boost to our education system.”

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education announced today that school districts participating in the National School Lunch Program can apply for grants to purchase approved school lunchroom equipment. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides the funding through a one-time appropriation to Tennessee of $2,275,738.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education today announced $1.4 million in funding for the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP) for the 2009-10 school year. These funds, provided by the United States Department of Agriculture, are to be used primarily to purchase, prepare and distribute fresh fruits and veggies at no charge to students 8th-grade and below.
NASHVILLE – As part of the America’s Promise Alliance’s Dropout Prevention Campaign, the Tennessee Department of Education today announced commencement of the 2009 Moving Forward Graduation Summit, held in Nashville today.
The 2009 Moving Forward Graduation Summit will convene to address strategies to improve high school graduation rates in ten Tennessee school districts. This event will serve as a starting point for planning local graduation summits and develop strategies for implementing dropout prevention programs that will increase graduation rates.
NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed March 2 - 6 School Breakfast Week in Tennessee to remind Tennesseans of the availability of the School Breakfast Program for all students. The School Breakfast Program is a national federally funded program that provides nutritionally balanced breakfasts to students in school. More than 30 million Tennessee students participate each year.
