Cedars of Lebanon to Host Elsie Quarterman Cedar Glade Wildflower Festival May 1-2

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cedars of Lebanon State Park will host its annual Elsie Quarterman Cedar Glade Wildflower Festival May 1-2. Held in partnership with The Center for Cedar Glade Studies of Middle Tennessee State University, this event will offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the area through seminars, guided nature walks, exhibits, guest speakers and naturalist displays. All events are free and open to the public.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s mobile household hazardous waste collection service will be in Sullivan County on April 25. In addition, the department is reminding local citizens that Sullivan County has initiated year-round efforts to provide additional opportunities for the collection of many of these materials. 

Burgess Falls Partnering with Girl Scouts, Master Gardeners, to Restore Native Plants

SPARTA, Tenn. – Burgess Falls State Park and Natural Area staff will team up with the White County Girl Scouts and Putnam County Master Gardeners for a volunteer workday on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the park.

Fall Creek Falls Schedules Annual Spring Star Party for April 24-26

NASHVILLE – Fall Creek Falls State Park, Cumberland Astronomical Society, Vanderbilt University’s Dyer Observatory and the Astronomy in the Parks Society announced today the 5th Annual Tennessee Spring Star Party will be held April 24-26 at the park. The program is designed to accommodate both beginning stargazers and experienced astronomers.

Bredesen Announces Development District Grants to Help Manage and Reduce Waste in Tennessee

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke announced today that eight of the state’s development districts will receive grants totaling $291,501 to support solid waste management activities in fiscal year 2009-10 in communities across Tennessee.
