Burgess Falls Offers Summer Camps for 4th through 6th Graders; Mini Ranger Sessions to be Held for 5- to 8-Year-Olds
 
SPARTA, Tenn. – Burgess Falls State Park will offer a series of day camps this summer for young people who will be entering the fourth, fifth or sixth grade in the 2010-2011 school year. Both a basic Ranger Camp and an advanced camp will be offered. In addition, several “mini” camp sessions will be held for students entering the first, second and third grade in the upcoming school year.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee Historical Commission have announced Historic Preservation Fund grants to 28 community organizations for programs and activities that support the preservation of historic and archaeological sites, districts and structures.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed April 5–11 Tennessee State Natural Areas Week, and Tennesseans are encouraged to join in a weeklong celebration with activities such as wildflower hikes, guided tours and volunteer stewardship efforts.
 
“Tennessee's Natural Areas reflect the rich, diverse landscapes of our state,” said Bredesen. “I encourage all Tennesseans to celebrate State Natural Areas Week by getting outdoors to explore these beautiful areas.”
 
The State Natural Areas Program provides long-term protection for rare, threatened and endangered plant and animal life. The program also protects ecologically sensitive areas, areas of geological and archaeological interest and areas of great scenic beauty. First established in 1971 by the Tennessee Natural Areas Preservation Act, there are now 80 state natural areas covering more than 116,000 acres.

Tennessee 2020 Focuses on Future of Tennessee Parks, People and Landscapes

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke joined local conservation and parks professionals today in the Old Supreme Court Chamber of the State Capitol to unveil Tennessee 2020, the state’s new recreation plan. The comprehensive planning document was created with significant public input, and focuses on the future of Tennessee’s parks, people and landscapes. The plan documents the most critical needs facing land conservation and recreational infrastructure over the next 10 years.

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Following the completion of a major renovation project at Bledsoe Creek State Park’s campground, the park will celebrate its re-opening on Saturday, April 10 with a Family Fun Day.
 
From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Family Fun Day will include free food, activities and entertainment. Music will be provided by the Portland City Limits, Garcia and Scott, Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys and Flatbroke – a band whose roster includes several of Tennessee State Parks’ own park rangers and staff. Tours of the new campground will also be conducted.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State Parks will suspend cave tours at Dunbar Cave State Park after a bat from Dunbar Cave tested positive for White Nose Syndrome. Other park activities and events, including fishing, hiking and picnic facilities will remain open and available to the public.

NASHVILLE – Spring is in the air and Easter is just around the corner – and with the great outdoors serving as your backdrop, there is no better place to celebrate Easter Sunday than at a Tennessee State Park.
 
All eight Tennessee State Parks restaurants will be open on Sunday, April 4, 2010, serving up a traditional Easter Sunday Buffet. Buffet selections and prices will vary from $11.95 to $14.95. Price does not include drink, tax or gratuity. Special prices for kids and seniors over 62 also are available. The Easter Buffet will begin at 11 a.m. and remain open until closing at state park restaurants across Tennessee.
