PIKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fall Creek Falls State Park will host its annual Waterfalls Weekend March 21-22. This event will offer visitors both easy jaunts and strenuous hikes to see some of the region’s spectacular waterfalls at the park and other, nearby natural areas. Local park experts will lead hikes and interpretive sessions throughout the weekend.

NASHVILLE – Pickwick Landing State Park’s Inn and Conference Center was recently presented with ConventionSouth Magazine’s annual Reader’s Choice Award for 2009. The park was one of four meeting sites in the state of Tennessee to receive this prestigious award.

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Historical Commission is now accepting nominations for its Certificate of Merit Awards to honor individuals or groups that have worked to preserve Tennessee’s cultural heritage during 2008. The deadline for submissions is March 30.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is joining the Tennessee Department of Health to encourage Tennesseans and private water well owners in the state to observe National Ground Water Awareness Week, March 8-14.

NASHVILLE – Park officials at Frozen Head State Park announced today the park’s annual gate closure to all motorized vehicles at the Emory River Area will begin March 1 at sunset, with gates re-opening on March 21 at 8 a.m. Gate closures exclude Gobey Road as the main thoroughfare into the area.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will host a public availability session and meeting along with the Tennessee Department of Health and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday, March 5, 2009, to share information with the community about environmental sampling results related to the Kingston ash spill and what those results mean. 

PIKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fall Creek Falls State Park is offering a basket-making workshop February 27-28, 2009, for participants interested in learning a new craft or refining existing skills.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Greenways and Trails program will hold its annual forum at East Tennessee State University April 2 – 4, 2009, which will be hosted by Johnson City and the Commissioner’s Council on Greenways and Trails.

NASHVILLE - There’s no sweeter way to spend St. Valentine’s Day than with a visit to one of Tennessee’s State Parks. All eight state park restaurants will be open Saturday, Feb. 14, serving a special Valentine’s Day meal and special overnight packages also are available at Tennessee State Park’s six incredible inns.

NASHVILLE – The Department of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Natural Areas will lead two, short guided hikes on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the William B. Clark and the Ghost River Natural Areas in Fayette County. Participants should meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot at the William Clark Preserve located about one mile north of Rossville on State Highway 194.
