NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed a case of rabies in a puppy in Rutherford County. TDOH is conducting an investigation to identify any persons who may have been exposed to rabies through contact with the puppy.

Hamilton County Nursing Home Cited For Violations

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, has suspended new admissions of residents to Life Care Center of Red Bank nursing home effective June 17, 2009, and imposed a one-time state civil monetary penalty of $5,000. A federal civil penalty has been imposed at $6,150 a day until the violations are corrected. A special monitor has been appointed to review the facility’s operations.

NASHVILLE - Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it has raised the influenza pandemic alert level from phase 5 to phase 6, indicating the beginning of a flu pandemic. A flu pandemic is a global disease outbreak of a new influenza virus, for which people have little or no immunity and for which there is no vaccine. The disease spreads easily person-to-person, causes serious illness and can sweep across the country and around the world in very short time.

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the suspension of admissions at Community Care of Rutherford County has been lifted effective June 1, 2009. The facility is a 131-bed licensed nursing home located at 901 East County Farm Road in Murfreesboro.

NASHVILLE — First Lady Andrea Conte and Department of Health Deputy Commissioner Jim Shulman have announced results of the first-ever March to the Moon fitness challenge for state employees. The top five placing state departments and agencies were honored in late April with a presentation at Ellington Agricultural Center.

The state also has recommended that the federal civil penalty be imposed at $3,050 a day until the violations are corrected. A special monitor has been appointed to review the facility’s operations.
