MEMPHIS - The Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold its next free bimonthly new business workshop on July 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Renaissance Business Center, located at 555 Beale Street. The workshop will be held in the Memphis Training Room.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent arrest of Wendell Price, Jr., age 41. Price is the former co-owner and chef of Wendell’s World Beat Grill, located at 414 South Main Street in Memphis.

Washington County Business Owner Sentenced on Sales Tax Evasion Charges

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to the sentencing of Gonzalo Alverez Moralez, president of Ornelas, Inc., dba La Carreta Mexican Restaurant located at 5494 Bobby Hicks Highway in Gray, Tenn.

Revenue to Conduct Diesel Fuel Compliance Checks in Knox County on May 20

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue will be conducting roadside diesel fuel compliance checks in Knox County during daylight hours on Wednesday, May 20. Internal Revenue Service fuel compliance officers often participate in these checks and may be present at this location.

Middleton Business Owner Pleads Guilty to Sales Tax Evasion Charges

 

 BOLIVAR, Tenn. -The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to the guilty plea of Maher Quran, age 43, owner of the Middleton Pit Stop. Quran pled guilty to four counts of Sales Tax Evasion, a violation of Tenn. Code Ann. Section 67-1-1440(g), a Class E felony. The counts charged that between March 2003 and November 2004, Quran attempted to evade tax due the state.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent arrest this morning of David R. McWhorter, owner of S.A.T. Services in Clarksville, Tenn. Revenue special agents arrested McWhorter this morning at his place of employment.

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment, arrests and subsequent guilty pleas of Odell and Mary G. Tidwell, owners of Sneaky Pete’s Cajun Bar and Grille, on one Class C felony count for Theft of Property Over $10,000 and one Class E felony count of Tax Evasion. Their sentencing is scheduled for May 26, 2009.

Former Cheatham County Business Owner Charged with Sales Tax Evasion

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent arrest of Madget A.Tidwell, owner of M.A.T. Enterprises formerly doing business as Pizza Pro in Kingston Springs, Tenn.

On April 7, 2009, Madget A. Tidwell, age 49, was indicted by a Cheatham County Grand Jury on one Class E felony count of Sales Tax Evasion in violation of Tenn. Code Annotated 67-1-1440(g). The indictment states Tidwell collected but failed to remit $11,357.80 in sales tax from July 2006 through June 2007. On April 11, 2009, Tidwell was arrested by the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office. If convicted, Tidwell could be sentenced to a maximum of two years in the state penitentiary and fined $3,000 for the Class E Felony count. Additional civil taxes, penalties, and interest will be due the state.
