Filing Deadline is April 15

NASHVILLE -  In the midst of tax preparation season, the Department of Revenue is reminding taxpayers to file online for the individual income tax and franchise and excise taxes by the April 15 deadline. Electronic filing and payment options are available at www.Tennessee.gov/revenue.

NASHVILLE - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that resulted in Friday's indictment of Michael G. Tangredi, age 18, chief financial officer for M. Tangredi Restaurants.

Former Shelby County Businesswoman Sentenced After Being Found Guilty of Sales Tax Evasion

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to the sentencing of Brenda Ifabiyi, former owner of Ayokas Liquor Store located at 4907 Airways Boulevard in Memphis. Ifabiyi was found guilty of two counts of sales tax evasion during a weeklong trial in December before the Honorable John Fowlkes, Jr. in Division 6 of the Shelby County Criminal Court. She was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and ordered to pay $12,237 to the state for sales tax that she failed to remit. Additional penalty and interest will be due the state.

Dickson County Business Manager Enters Guilty Plea to Sales Tax Evasion

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to today’s guilty plea by Glen R. Bailey, age 58, operator and manager of Notable Auto Sales located in Dickson, Tenn. Bailey pleaded guilty to one Class E felony count of Sales Tax Evasion. He was placed on one year of probation and ordered to make full restitution to the state of Tennessee in the amount of $1,612.32 for filing false and fraudulent documents with the Dickson County Clerk’s Office that intentionally understated the actual sales prices of two vehicles he registered. A second felony count against Bailey was dismissed. Additional civil taxes, penalty and interest will be due the state.

Patel, owner of Liquor World, located at 623-C South Cumberland Avenue in Lebanon. Patel entered a guilty plea to one Class C felony count of Theft of Property Over $10,000 and one Class E felony count of Sales Tax Evasion.

Former Davidson County Business Owner Enters Guilty Plea

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to yesterday’s guilty plea by John J. Wahidi, age 40, former owner of River Road Liquors located at 7078 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville. Wahidi pleaded guilty to one Class C felony count of Theft of Property Over $10,000. As part of the plea agreement, Wahidi was required to pay $109,907 in restitution to the state for sales tax he collected but intentionally did not remit from Jan. 1, 2004 to Aug. 31, 2005. He was sentenced to four years in the state penitentiary with all time suspended to probation. All other felony counts against Wahidi were dismissed.
