Awards Ceremony Recognizes Men & Women from across the State

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Office of Homeland Security (OHS) will honor the commitment and sacrifice of 23 of Tennessee’s finest first responders at a recognition ceremony in Nashville on the eighth anniversary of 9/11. First responders from all emergency services disciplines – law enforcement, fire, emergency management, and emergency medical services – will be among those honored at the ceremony.

Preliminary Report Shows Drop in Deadly Holiday Crashes

Motorcycle Fatalities Down Significantly

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety announced today preliminary reports indicate six people were killed in six fatal crashes on Tennessee roadways during the 2009 Labor Day holiday, compared to 12 fatalities last year in 10 fatal crashes. The 2009 Labor Day holiday period started at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009, and ran through 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2009.

Between the Barrels Visits Sumner County

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will deliver the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 500 high school students at Gallatin High School in Sumner County, Wednesday, September 9, 2009. The safe driving program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, aims to reduce the chances of being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

Tennessee State Troopers Arrest One of Kentucky’s Most Wanted

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State Troopers arrested a Kentucky man who has been a fugitive from justice for almost a year on Thursday, September 3, 2009. Trooper Michael Wilson located and arrested Scottie L. Baird, 29, after stopping a vehicle on I-75 in Knox County at approximately 9:30 a.m. Trooper Wilson, who is a member of the THP’s Knoxville District Interdiction Plus Team, said Baird was wanted by the Kentucky State Police on three felony indictments including theft and being a “second degree persistent felony offender.”

NASHVILLE --- The Directors of the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security (OHS) and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) will hold a media availability on Thursday, September 3, 2009 to discuss emergency preparedness. September 1st marks the kick-off of National Preparedness Month, a month –long national effort to increase public awareness about how citizens can prepare for emergencies.

TDOS Moves to Terminate Sgt. Chris Curry

Due Process Letter Served

NASHVILLE--- Today, Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell terminated THP Sergeant Chris Curry following his arrest while off-duty for DUI, Tuesday, September 1, 2009, by the White House Police Department.  Curry has been on personal leave since August 10, 2009, and has not reported to duty.

NASHVILLE---The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) today announced State Troopers will be out in full force during the Labor Day holiday period. They will join thousands of other law enforcement and highway safety agencies throughout the state and nation as they take part in the Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest crackdown on impaired driving.   The Official Labor Day holiday weekend begins Friday, September 4, at 6 p.m. and ends Monday, September 7, at 11:59 p.m.
