NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will deliver the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 300 high school students at Greenbrier High School in Robertson County, Friday, April 16, 2010. The safe driving program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, aims to reduce the chances of teens being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety today announced the promotion of Curtis F. Mansfield Jr. as the new Captain commanding the Jackson District.   Captain Mansfield replaces Robert Melton, who retired February 25, 2010, after a 36-year career with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

176 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in Traffic Stop on I-40

NASHVILLE --- A Tennessee State Trooper stopped a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup on I-40 in Fayette County and seized nearly 176 pounds of marijuana.

At approximately 7 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, Trooper Grant Montgomery observed the pick up in violation of the window tint law. Trooper Montgomery stopped the vehicle on I-40 east bound near mile marker 40 in Fayette County.
 
Trooper Montgomery requested a local drug interdiction unit from the 30th Drug Task Force. A K-9 unit gave positive response to the vehicle near the gas tank. The vehicle gas tank was removed and inside the tank officers uncovered approximately 176 pounds of marijuana.

NASHVILLE --- A Tennessee State Trooper stopped a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup on I-40 in Dickson County and seized nearly 100 pounds of marijuana.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting a statewide commercial vehicle enforcement campaign during Operation Strategic Transportation Observation & Prevention (S.T.O.P.), Friday, March 26, 2010.  The 24-hour inspection program begins at 6 a.m., March 26 and continues through 6 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010.  Troopers will be conducting inspections at 8 sites across the state in a broad effort to ensure the safety of the motoring public.

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol urges motorists to designate a sober driver and don’t depend on dumb luck this St. Patrick’s Day. Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers will conduct more than 50 sobriety and driver license checkpoints across the state in an effort to find and remove impaired drivers from Tennessee roadways. The official 2010 St. Patrick’s Day holiday begins at 6:00 p.m., March 16, 2010, and runs through 6:59 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010.
