NASHVILLE—Governor Phil Bredesen announced today that an aeronautics grant in the amount of $360,000 has been approved for Warren County Memorial Airport.

 

“Our local airports are vital to the economy and travel system of Tennessee,” said Bredesen. “Investing in our airports helps keep them competitive and efficient at meeting the needs of businesses and travelers. I’m pleased to support continued improvement at Warren County Memorial Airport.”
 

 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely joined representatives from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, Department of Safety, Department of Health, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, AARP, AAA Auto Club South, and a number of other highway safety partners to sign a new Strategic Highway Safety Plan for Tennessee on Wednesday, September 30. The goal of the new plan is to reduce the number of fatalities in Tennessee by 10% by 2012.

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen announced today that eight small urban transit agencies will receive $9.7 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for transit services in Tennessee's small urban areas of Bristol, Clarksville, Cleveland, Jackson, Johnson City, Kingsport, Lakeway and Murfreesboro (click link for details on each). 

 

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation today identified 111 bridges across the state that will be either replaced, repaired or rehabilitated through a new initiative aimed at reducing the number of structurally deficient bridges in the state.  TDOT’s Better Bridges Program is a four year program approved in 2009 by the Tennessee General Assembly that will utilize bonds to pay for the repair or replacement of more than 200 structurally deficient bridges in the state.  Today, TDOT presented a list of bridges to be covered in the first year of the program to Governor Phil Bredesen and leaders of the Tennessee General Assembly as required by Public Chapter 552.

 

 

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is recognizing numerous airports across the state with “Front Door Awards” for providing facilities and services that reflect community pride and commitment to quality. The awards were handed out at the 24TH Annual Tennessee Airports Conference on August 20, 2009.

 

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation today recognized five Tennessee Airports with Awards of Excellence in aviation.  The awards were presented at the 24TH Annual Tennessee Airports Conference on August 20 in Nashville.  The Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to aviation in five categories: Airport of the Year, Most Improved Airport, Governing Body of the Year, Airport Manager of the Year, and Career Contributions to Aviation (click on the links above for press releases on the individual winners). 

 

 

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is proud to announce that its Civil Rights Office has earned two awards from the Southern Transportation Civil Rights Executive Council.  The awards were announced at the recent 2009 Southern Transportation Civil Rights Training Symposium, comprised of eight southern states.
