TWRA Reports One Fatality, 28 BUI Arrests Over July Fourth Holiday

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports that a 24-year old Chattanooga man was a drowning victim over the July Fourth holiday weekend. The accident occurred on Sunday, July 4 on Chickamauga Lake near the Paradise Cove section.
 
A total of 17 boating accidents were reported across the state, resulting in 16 injuries for the July Fourth holiday period which ran from 6 p.m., July 2 through midnight, July 5. Chickamauga, Dale Hollow Lake, and the Ocoee River had three accidents each.

Hunters Reminded About 2010 Special Season Deer Changes

NASHVILLE --- Hunters are reminded by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency the special season fall turkey hunts and county deer quota hunts have been changed to non-quota hunts in many counties across the state.

New South Holston Lake License Now Available

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries license agreement is now available which will allow the residents of Tennessee and Virginia more convenient fishing opportunities on South Holston Lake.

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials remind all those who visit the state’s waterways for the July Fourth holiday to be safe for what is annually one of the busiest weekends of the year.

"Operation Dry Water” Results in 27 Boating Under the Influence Arrests

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency recorded 27 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests across the state as part of “Operation Dry Water,” during the weekend of June 25-27.

TWRA Continues Updates on WMA Planting

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is continuing to provide updates on its annual planting of crops for wildlife, including waterfowl areas in many areas of Middle and West Tennessee. The May floods have caused a delay in this year’s planting.

TWRA One of Co-Sponsors for Sixth Annual Small Farm Expo

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be one of the co-sponsors of the Sixth Annual Small Farm Expo to be held at the Otis Floyd Nursery Research Center in McMinnville. The event will take place on July 15 beginning at 8 a.m. and end with the Tennessee Small Farmer Recognition Program which starts at noon.

TWRA to Participate in “Operation Dry Water"

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is teaming with the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) for “Operation Dry Water” the weekend of June 25-27.

TWRA Updates Status of Wildlife Management Areas Damaged by Floods

NASHVILLE --- Due to the May floods, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has been delayed from its annual planting of crops for wildlife, including waterfowl areas in many areas of Middle and West Tennessee.
 
Many of these areas suffered significant damage to levees, road and pumping systems. TWRA officials are reporting the current status of several of the sites.

Free Safety Check Available for Boaters

NASHVILLE --- Boating season is underway and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is among the agencies reminding boaters they could be safer with a free boat safety check. The United States Power Squadrons (USPS) and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary (CGAUX) provide free boat/vessel safety checks (VSC) at launch ramps and marinas on Tennessee lakes and rivers.
 
The Vessel Safety Check is a free check of a vessel’s equipment for compliance with Tennessee and federal safety equipment requirements. The vessel examiners performing this service have been trained to look for some of the more common problems, which might occur in your boat or its associated safety equipment. Vessels meeting all of the Vessel Safety Check (VSC) requirements are awarded a VSC decal.
