Hunter Education Instructor Workshop Scheduled for Greeneville, April 9-11

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be holding a Hunter Education Volunteer Instructor Workshop at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greeneville on April 9-11.

Dr. Mark Fly to Be Featured Presenter at April Nature @ Noontime Program

NASHVILLE --- Dr. Mark Fly, an active member of this Every Child Outdoors-Tennessee Coalition, will be the featured speaker at the Tennessee Wildlife Agency’s Nature @ Noontime April presentation from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, April. The monthly program is held at the TWRA Region II conference room and is located in the Ellington Agricultural Center.

Applications for Second Elk Hunt To Be Accepted April 1 Through May 31

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will accept applications from April 1 through May 31, 2010 for participation in Tennessee’s second-ever managed elk hunt.

Young Sportsman Hunt Launches 2010 Spring Turkey Season

NASHVILLE --- The statewide young sportsman hunt March 27-28 will launch the spring turkey hunting season in Tennessee. The regular season will begin the next week, Saturday (April 3) and will continue through Sunday, May 16.

“The TWRA Today” Video Available Online

NASHVILLE --- A video, "The TWRA Today " is now available online at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Web site.
 
The video describes the TWRA, its diversity of programs, and its effects on life in the Volunteer State. The video highlights TWRA’s history, wildlife, fishing, boating, and the wide-range of opportunities available to experience and enjoy as well as the positive economic impact that TWRA brings to the state.

TWRA Has Cost-share Available to Aid Livestock Producers

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Landowner Incentive Program (TNLIP) still has cost-share available for landowners to install Best Management Practices (BMP) that will benefit livestock producers and protect species of conservation concern habitat. Many of the practices can help improve herd health and profitability. The TNLIP program will pay 75 percent of the cost to install BMPs that will benefit the habitat of aquatic species of conservation concern.

TWRA Makes Public Aware of Potential Legislative Action Concerning TWRC, Agency

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency informed its governing board, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission and others in attendance at their regularly scheduled March meeting of possible legislation that could affect the future of the TWRC and the agency. This information came during the legislative update portion of the meeting, concerning legislation that would sunset the TWRC and/or the TWRA.

Spring Turkey Quota Hunt Draw Results Now Available

Knoxville Resident Roy Hawk Claims Another State Fishing Record

NASHVILLE --- Knoxville resident Roy Hawk now has the honor of holding three current state fishing records, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has confirmed.
 
Hawk caught a quillback carpsucker that weighed 4 lbs., 2 ozs., that measured 19 1/8 inches in length while fishing on the Holston River in Hawkins County on Feb. 18. Hawk had set the standard for the northern hogsucker and the black redhorse on the same day while fishing on the South Holston a year and two days prior to establishing the mark for quillback carpsucker. The northern hogsucker weighed 2 lbs., 9 ozs and the black redhorse 3 lbs., 1 oz.

TWRC March Meeting Set the 17th-18th in Nashville

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on March 17-18 as the TWRC returns to a Wednesday-Thursday format.
 
This month’s meeting will also be the first under new chairman Michael Chase (Knoxville) who was elected to the position for 2010-11. The meeting will be held at the TWRA Region 2 Ray Bell Office Building. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. on March 17 and at 9 a.m. on March 18.
