Bredesen Announces More than $30 Million in Homeland Security Grants

NASHVILLE --- Governor Phil Bredesen today announced that Tennessee has been awarded more than $30 million in federal Homeland Security Grant Funds for fiscal year 2010. The grants will be distributed to Tennessee’s 11 Homeland Security Districts.

Annual Awards Ceremony Recognizes Excellence in Emergency Service Statewide

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Office of Homeland Security (OHS) today honored the commitment and sacrifice of 23 Tennessee first responders from the state’s 11 Homeland Security Districts at a unique recognition ceremony held at the State Capitol in Nashville. The second annual event recognized first responders from all areas within the emergency services discipline.

NASHVILLE--- Thirty-two Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Troopers recently completed homeland security training at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), located in Anniston, Alabama. The CDP is operated by the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is the only federally-charged Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training facility in the nation.

Bredesen Announces Allocation of $16.7 Million to Tennessee's 11 Homeland Security Districts

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee will distribute $16.7 million in federal homeland security grant funds to the state’s 11 Homeland Security Districts, Governor Phil Bredesen and Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell announced today. Local authorities will use the 2009 federal homeland security funds to strengthen the capabilities of first responders to detect, deter, prepare and respond to acts of terror and other disasters.

Homeland Security Expo Showcases Middle Tennessee Disaster Response Capabilities

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Office of Homeland Security (OHS) in conjunction with the City of Lebanon invites the public to an Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Expo to see firsthand how the emergency response agencies have strengthened their abilities to protect the Middle Tennessee region. State-of-the-art public safety equipment and live emergency response demonstrations will highlight the seven-county Nashville UASI/Homeland Security District 5 region’s multi-discipline approach to public safety. The Nashville UASI/Homeland Security District 5 is comprised of Cannon, Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson and Wilson counties.
